Infrared Inspections

Infrared scanning is one of the few tests that can be performed while an electrical power distribution system is energized and under load to determine if weaknesses exist that could lead to power failures and surprise electrical outages. DYMAX typically performs such inspections before a planned outage for maintenance or testing. Some insurance companies require infrared switchgear inspections.

Infrared inspection scans current-carrying conductors such as buswork, contactor circuits, circuit breakers (and connections to them), with an infrared camera, which indicates hot spots on equipment. These elevated temperatures might indicate a loose connection or other reason for high resistance at that spot, (e.g., dirt that causes high resistance). By drawing attention to the hot spot, infrared inspection allows for timely corrective measures.

After the infrared inspection, DYMAX technicians show you a report with images (photographs of normal/optical and thermal/infrared views) of all problem areas, and recommended action.
